Stop Motion Video Projects

Elmwood students have been learning about stop-motion videos and special effects. An example of a few stop-motion videos (click on the Play icon to view) :

A stop-motion video example:

Another example of a great stop-motion video

a commercial by SONY Bravia:

Here's how they made the video--"plasticine" is the clay, 2.5 tons of clay!:

A main topic of discussion in our Computer Graphics class is: "What makes a video 'good'?" We've talked about music that fits the action, great photography, a storyline that makes sense, credit for work, etc. The following commercial by SONY Bravia illustrates particularly great photography, and is just plain fun to watch:

To prepare for the videos, 7th & 8th Grade students have been studying a variety of theatre styles including use of villain and hero characters (melodrama, vaudeville). The standards for the projects were for Visual Art 7th 2.6/8th 2.3: "Create an original work of art, using film, photography, computer graphics or video;" Theatre 7th: 2.3 Create characters, environments and actions that exhibit tension and suspense; 8th: 2.1 "Create short dramatizations in selected styles of theatre such as melodrama..."

Computer Graphics students are also learning about art theory: elements (color, line, shape, texture, value) and principles (balance, harmony, space, symbol, etc.) Computer programs such as PowerPoint and Microsoft Publisher are explored along with online research about interior design, architecture, landscape architecture, clothing design and web design. As projects are ready, they will be posted on this blog.
